-
Fill your hot tub and test the water chemistry.
-
Balance your water.
-
It is recommended to add a stain and scale preventer to the water to prevent excessive scaling.
-
Test the pre-existing salt level of your water using the strips provided in the startup kit.
-
Locate the conversion chart at the bottom of the page. Input the gallons of your hot tub and the level of salt at which you tested. Once those numbers are submitted it will recommend the amount of salt needed to raise your salinity level to the optimal level of 2600 ppm.
-
To add the salt to your hot tub, taking a small plastic container, scoop some of the hot tub water into the container, then add the salt to the container. Stir the salt water mixture until the salt is completely dissolved. Once dissolved, pour mixture back in to the hot tub (away from the filter housing) while the circulation pump is on.
-
You will want to reset your salt system after adding the salt by turning the unit off, waiting 10 seconds, then turning the unit back on.
-
You will want to run the system for a total of 48 hours to ensure adequate amount of chlorine is generated. DO NOT run the system 48 hours continuously. It is recommended you initially run your system 6-8 hours per day.
-
After the system has run a total of 48 hours, clean your hot tub filter.
-
It is important to supplement with a Sodium Dichloro, granule chlorine to maintain proper sanitizer levels while starting the salt water system.
-
Because this salt water system is designed to produce the proper amount of chlorine based on the gallons of your hot tub and under normal use, you will want to keep a supply of Sodium Dichloro, granule chlorine available in the event your hot tub needs a boost of chlorine due to increased bather load or debris in the hot tub.
CLEANING YOUR SALT CELL
It is important to regularly check your salt cell for cleanliness. Over time you may notice a buildup of calcium on the cells internal plates. When the cell becomes dirty/corroded it can cause the salt system to stop production of chlorine.
To clean your salt cell;
-
Remove the salt cell from the hose line
-
Clamp hose shut to prevent water loss
-
Using a clean plastic bucket, fill with 3 parts water, 1 part Muriatic Acid.
ALWAYS ADD ACID TO WATER – NEVER ADD WATER TO ACID
-
Submerge the salt cell into the water/acid mixture and let sit for 5 minutes.
-
Remove the cell and rinse with fresh water.
-
If cell does not appear clean, you may repeat steps 4 and 5.
DO NOT LEAVE SALT CELL IN WATER/ACID MIXTURE FOR MORE THAN 5 MINUTES AT A TIME.
DO NOT STICK ANY TYPES OF TOOLS DOWN INTO CELL. THIS CAN DAMAGE THE PLATES AND MAY CAUSE THE SYSTEM TO STOP WORKING.
-
Once salt cell is clean, put back into place, secure hose clamps and resume use.
MURIATIC ACID IS ONLY TO BE USED TO CLEAN THE SALT CELL. DO NOT USE TO BALANCE WATER CHEMISTRY. THIS WILL DAMAGE YOUR HOT TUB.
